Introducing Greenville Chiropractor Dr. Mike Bovee
Growing up a very active and sports-oriented person in upstate New York, I played many sports but seemed to excel in football. I played this great american sport all the way up through high school and college. After college, I was recruited to play professional football in the Arena Football League. After a short stint in this league I suffered an injury to my lower back that sidelined me for several weeks. I was ultimately told that I had no other options but surgery to repair two herniated discs in my lumbar spine.
What happened next changed my life forever! A dear friend of mine suggested I go see his chiropractor for a second opinion. At first I thought, "No way, those guys are quacks." However, after serious consideration I figured I could try chiropractic and if it didn't help me (which I was sure it wouldn't) then I could still opt to have the surgery. Simply put, I was a skeptic...
Well.....let me tell you, not only did chiropractic get me out of pain, but it also made me feel better overall than I had in years! From all of the years of abuse my body took from playing sports I had more issues than I thought. I was so impressed with my outcome that I decided to hang up my very prominent football career and become a chiropractor so that I could make a difference in other people's lives like chiropractic did in mine.
I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a small school in Spartanburg, South Carolina that has an outstanding reputation for turning out solid, grounded chiropractors, Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic. What surprised me about my education was that chiropractic students receive as much education as medical students do, and in some areas, such as Anatomy and Diagnosis & Radiology/X-ray we receive more education. I think the classes I liked most were the ones dealing with Anatomy because of my interest in health and the human body.
At Carolina Spine and Rehab we take pride in offering quality chiropractic care at an affordable price and we believe in treating patients as if they were part of our family. If a person has a desire to improve the condition of his/her spine then we will do whatever it takes to help that person with their goals.
I am happily married with two wonderful children. My wife, Angela, is a licensed Realtor who enjoys meeting Greenville are residents and building friendships as she helps them find their dream homes. Our oldest son, Austin, 12 and is in middle school. His hobbies include sports of any kind, playing video games and watching movies. Alex, 5 is our youngest and he likes doing anything his older brother does, of course. Alex likes reading and playing video games as well. On my personal time I enjoy, spending quality time with my family, coaching youth football, lifting weights, exercising, sports, reading, nutrition and health, riding my Harley-Davidson motorcycle, taking the boat to the lake with my family, anything outdoors, Classic and muscle cars.
I understand the importance of a healthy nervous system and that is why I get my spine checked for subluxations about every 2 weeks. I feel this schedule works the best for my spine based on my daily activities and stress that I am under on a regular basis. I think it is important to "practice what I preach." In other words, I tell my patients how important maintenance care is, therefore, I make it a point to follow the same advice I am giving them. I firmly believe that the human body has the innate ability to take care of itself, given the appropriate tools. Along with making sure I have a healthy nervous system, I also try to do the following on a regular basis: exercise, eat a healthy diet, take essential vitamins and nutritional supplements, and de-stress.
